SPEED RACER - THE NEXT GENERATION - 3D Environments

Essentially I had two rolls on this show. One was to Art and Technically Direct the 3D Art Team responsible for all of the rendered still-frame backgrounds for the show.

We took over the project with most of the models for the still frame sets already existing...
We had to optimize, re-map, re-texture. and re-light all of the still-frame sets. Here are some examples of still-frame sets that we optimized, retextured, lit and set up for render using MR.

The second roll I had, after all of the still- frame environments were complete, was to:
Design, build, optimize and manage new sets for the animated action sequences's of the show. These were brand new sets that had to be created from scratch. And set up for animation.

Here are some examples of those Animated Background Sets. You can find more stills at cgchannel.com, and see them in their true format, animation, on my reel.

Obviously I had the help of some really good texture painters on these sets. Render times for these scenes was around 1-7 seconds per frame, as you see them here. To accomplish this, fewer polygons, and re-use of assets was the key.
